President Joe Biden called on Congress on Thursday to pass more disaster relief measures after Hurricane Idalia struck Florida and other states in the Southeast.
Biden will visit Florida tomorrow:-
During a press conference from FEMA headquarters in Washington, D.C., Biden said he would visit Florida on Saturday to see the damage for himself.
The president has targeted lawmakers who reject his request for $12 billion in emergency funding to respond to natural disasters, as well as those who deny climate change.
Biden said that he had earlier spoken with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to agree to a major disaster declaration, and the president had also been in contact with the governors of the states of Georgia and the Carolinas that were affected by Idalia.
Presidential candidate DeSantis talks about the losses:-
“DeSantis”, who is running for president as a Republican candidate in the 2024 election, said the loss of life and damage from Hurricane Idalia were not on par with Hurricane Ian, which struck the densely populated Fort Myers area, killing 149 people in the state.
