In a legal filing, Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were brought by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia. The charges allege that Trump and his allies pressured Georgia election officials to overturn the results of the election, which Joe Biden won by a narrow margin.

The charges are the most serious criminal charges Trump has faced to date. They could result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years if he is convicted.

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. He has called the charges a “witch hunt” and a politically motivated attempt to damage his political career.

The case is being closely watched as a test of Trump’s influence and the strength of U.S. democracy. It is also a potential setback for his political ambitions, as he is expected to run for president again in 2024.
