More than 11,000 dancers, drummers, and singers from the northeastern Indian state of Assam have set the Guinness World Record for the largest dance performance at one venue.
Festival activities:-
- The indigenous folk dance is performed at Rongali Bihu, the major spring festival in Assam, on April 13 every year.
- Women wear the traditional mikila chador, a two-part robe, with flowers in their hair, while men wear a tunic and a dhoti, a long traditional loincloth, in red and white or red and cream, signifying fertility.
- Women sway briskly while men play flutes and drums.
The state prime minister shared a video clip of the festival via his Twitter account:-
A video shared by state Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, who was also present at the event, showed rows and rows of dancers, singers, and drummers in the huge stadium dancing in perfect synchrony and described the feat as a “new awakening of Assamese culture”.
“The whole world will be able to learn about the rich traditions and culture of Assam,” Sarma said.
Financial reward after the end of the offer:-
The participants were selected from all over the state and trained for several months for this mega event organized by the state government to promote the cultural heritage of the remote state. They will also receive a grant of 25,000 rupees ($300) to participate in this historic event and certificates from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be in the state on Friday to celebrate the Spring Festival.
