The Russian space agency Roscosmos said on Sunday that the Russian robotic lander Luna-25 crashed on the moon after it went into an out-of-control orbit, The launch earlier this month was Russia’s first since 1976, when it was part of the Soviet Union.
A statement issued by the agency said:-
“The device entered an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of its collision with the lunar surface”, In the main time Roscosmos said it lost contact with the spacecraft on Saturday after it encountered problems preparing for its pre-landing orbit after reporting an “abnormal situation” that its specialists were analyzing.
Roskosmos said in a post on Telegram:-
“During the operation, an abnormal situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed according to the established parameters”, Also the spacecraft was scheduled to touch down on the moon’s south pole on Monday, landing on Earth’s satellite ahead of an Indian spacecraft.
