In a televised speech on Tuesday Malik Agar the Deputy Head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council emphasized the urgent need to form a government to manage the affairs of the state.
Agar highlighted that the situation in Sudan necessitates a unified approach where the country’s interests take precedence over any selfish or political ambitions.
Agar further stated that the multitude of peace initiatives has had a negative impact on the country. Sudan is currently going through a critical test that jeopardizes its security and stability, unless its people unite and prioritize the nation’s best interests independent of any personal or political aspirations.
He outlined a roadmap to resolve the crisis starting with reaching a ceasefire agreement between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and designating specific locations for the RSF away from civilian areas. This separation aims to avoid endangering citizens and will facilitate the development of a comprehensive security arrangement for these forces.
Agar stressed that the only way to assume leadership positions and responsibility for the country is through free and fair elections conducted based on the constitution and the choice of the Sudanese people.
He highlighted the consequences of failing to establish and structure the Sudanese state, leading the nation into a dark abyss that has affected its resilient population. Despite enduring civil wars and armed conflicts in various regions of Sudan the intensity of violations and crimes against civilians has not reached the level seen by the Rapid Support Forces.
In a parallel development the civil forces that have signed the framework agreement in Sudan demanded an immediate cessation of all violations resulting from the war in the country and called for an independent investigation into these violations. This statement was issued at the conclusion of a two-day meeting of the civil forces in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
