The Criminal Charges Against Former US President Donald Trump: A Battle for Power and Allegations of Corruption
Former US President Donald Trump dismissed the criminal charges officially filed against him by a federal court in Miami, accusing him of willfully concealing classified official documents as a “wicked and heinous abuse of power.”
In a speech delivered in front of his supporters at his golf club in New Jersey, Trump accused his Republican challenger for the upcoming presidential election, President Joe Biden, of being “corrupt” and seeking to overthrow his “top political rival.”
He considered his trial as “interference in the elections” and vowed to fight against the deep state in the United States.
Trump delivered his speech shortly after arriving from Miami, where he appeared before a federal court and was officially charged with 37 criminal counts.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges, becoming the first former president in US history to be prosecuted in a federal court.
In his speech, Trump emphasized that his trial represented “interference in the elections.
“He added, “Today we witnessed the worst wicked and heinous abuse of power in the history of our country, It is extremely saddening.”
Trump, who turned seventy-seven on Wednesday, is accused of illegally retaining government secrets and taking them to his Florida residence after his term ended in 2021.
He refused to return them when officially requested to do so and conspired to hinder the investigators who were trying to recover them.
He is also accused of revealing sensitive US secrets to individuals without security clearance, in a case more serious than his previous legal challenges, which could result in decades of imprisonment.
The 49-page indictment includes photos showing boxes that were supposed to be stored in the National Archives piled up in ballrooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms at the Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump’s residence in Palm Beach.
During the hearing, Trump was informed of the charges by a federal judge.
Despite the gravity of the 37 charges against him, Trump did not abandon the defiant tone he has maintained since the investigations into this case began, After leaving the court, he assured a crowd of his supporters that everything is “fine.”
