Early morning accident on M-608 road leaves four dead and one injured
Collado Villalba, Madrid – A tragic accident in the early hours of Sunday morning claimed the lives of a 26-year-old woman and three teenagers, aged 16, 15, and 13. The frontolateral collision between two vehicles occurred at 5:50 a.m. on a bend in the M-608 road at kilometer 38. The Medical Emergency Service (Summa 112) reported that one vehicle veered into the opposite lane, causing the almost head-on collision. The Civil Guard is investigating the cause of the accident.
The four young victims, all residents of the nearby town of Moralzarzal, were traveling in one of the vehicles. In the other vehicle was a 30-year-old woman who sustained multiple fractures, lung contusion, and lumbar trauma; she has been transferred to Hospital Puerta de Hierro in stable condition. The minors were students at Leonardo Da Vinci and Martín Gaite schools in Moralzarzal.
Investigation and Emergency Response
Preliminary findings suggest that the eldest victim was returning after picking up her sister and two friends from a nighttime celebration in Collado Villalba. The driver lost control of the car, made two or three abrupt maneuvers, and ended up in the opposite lane, colliding with the other vehicle driven by the injured 30-year-old woman, a Civil Guard officer on her way to work.
Firefighters from the Community of Madrid extracted the injured officer from the wreckage. Emergency services found that the four young women had already passed away, with no possibility of resuscitation. The vehicle they were in was completely destroyed.
Four firefighter units were dispatched to the scene of the accident and cordoned off the area due to a “large gasoline spill” that had to be controlled, according to Ángel Sevillano, chief of one of the firefighter units. A Summa 112 psychologist unit also attended to assist family members and friends of the victims.
Condolences and Support
Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, expressed her condolences on Twitter: “Our deepest sympathy to the families and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured driver. A tragedy that plunges us all into deep sadness. RIP,” she wrote on the social network.
