Sebastián Piñera, the former President of Chile, has been confirmed dead following the crash of his helicopter. This incident was announced by his office in a statement released on Tuesday.
Piñera, aged 74, met his untimely demise in the tourist-favored region of Lago Ranco, situated approximately 920 kilometers south of Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Piñera, renowned for his tenure as the nation’s leader, first assumed the presidency in 2010, serving for four years before being succeeded by Michelle Bachelet. He then returned to the office in 2018, completing his term in 2022, and was succeeded by Gabriel Boric. His presidency marked the election of the first right-wing leader since the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).

Following the news of Piñera’s death, Interior Minister Carolina Tohá expressed that Piñera “will be honored and appreciated as he deserves.” Known for frequently using his private helicopter for travel, Piñera was also a significant figure in the business world, holding stakes in the national airline, a television network, and various other commercial enterprises.
