NWD,NEWS, 28,January,2024:In a tragic turn of events, a jovial episode outside a retail establishment in Brooklyn led to the untimely demise of a companion. The individual responsible for the fatality abruptly vacated the premises after spending a brief period with the now-deceased friend. As per the findings of investigators, the New York Police Department disclosed that a 36-year-old individual lost his life due to an inadvertent shooting, wherein the perpetrator perceived the incident as an attempted robbery by the deceased, who was merely engaging in a playful act of seizing shopping bags.
The unsettling incident transpired on Sutter Avenue, where the shooter belatedly realized that his compatriot, Francis, had been struck in the chest by the discharged firearm. According to police officials, the shooter, in possession of two plastic bags, found himself outside the store when Francis, in a playful jest, sought to relieve him of the bags. However, the shooter, misconstruing the situation as a robbery attempt, reacted by discharging the firearm. In a poignant plea during the 911 call, the shooter lamented, “I didn’t know it was you, I’m really, really sorry.” Subsequently, the perpetrator, having lingered momentarily with his now-fallen comrade, departed the scene, as detailed by investigators. Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny of the NYPD remarked, “At some point he hears the sirens and … leaves his friend to die.”
Francis was expeditiously conveyed to Brookdale University Hospital, where his demise was attributed to cardiac arrest.
