The video initially showed flames engulfing one of the wings of the Japanese airliner. As the situation escalated, thick smoke filled the cabin, accompanied by the panicked cries of passengers. The airliner, owned by Japan Airlines, had just landed at Haneda Airport from Sapporo in Hokkaido, North Japan.

While all 367 passengers of the Japanese airliner were safely evacuated, a tragic loss of life occurred on the Coast Guard plane, with five fatalities reported by Japan’s Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito.
