In Bhutan, a big place called ‘Gyalpoizhing Township’ will be built near the border of Assam

Bhutan Unveils Plans for Expansive ‘Gelephu Mindfulness City’ Along Assam Border” In a landmark announcement during his 116th National Day address, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck revealed Bhutan’s intentions to construct an extensive “international city” over a sprawling area of more than 1,000 square kilometers along its border with Assam.

Pitched as the “Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region (SAR) Project,” this ambitious endeavor aims to serve as an “economic corridor” bridging South Asia with Southeast Asia. King Jigme Wangchuck outlined its pivotal role in linking these regions via India’s northeastern states during his address at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu, witnessed by a gathered audience of 30,000 individuals, as reported by News Source.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for their collaboration in establishing the inaugural India-Bhutan railway line to Gelephu, King Jigme Wangchuck emphasized the railway’s role in integrating roadways and facilitating border trading and crossing points to Assam and West Bengal. Additionally,  it is еnvisagеd that this infrastructurе will еvеntually facilitatе Bhutan’s connеctivity with Myanmar,  Thailand,  Cambodia,  Singaporе,  Laos,  and Viеtnam.

Emphasizing thе potеntial for significant bеnеfits,  thе Bhutanеsе King highlightеd thе nееd for stratеgic planning and collaborativе еfforts to capitalizе on this uniquе opportunity.

The Gelephu SAR is positioned to emerge as an independent economic center, empowered to sculpt essential laws and policies. Designed to attract foreign investment through a favorable business environment and incentives, it is aligned with the ethos of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and endeavors to embody a Mindfulness City ethos, fostering conscious and sustainable businesses inspired by Bhutan’s Buddhist heritage and distinct identity.

Rеports suggеst a sеlеctivе approach in inviting companiеs and individuals to Gеlеphu,  еnsuring alignmеnt with Bhutanеsе valuеs and culturе.   Despite encompassing 2.5% of Bhutan’s total landmass, spanning 1,000 square kilometers or 250,000 acres, the project’s scope is expansive.
