A photographer from the Agence France-Presse (AFP) described witnessing what appeared to be a body outside the police station, enclosed in a black plastic bag.
According to an official police statement, the assailant was armed with a ‘Carlo’ type weapon. After firing at the police officers at the entrance of the station, he attempted to flee the scene, but was subsequently shot by responding officers. The attacker, a 21-year-old resident from the Beit Hanina neighborhood in East Jerusalem, was confirmed deceased on site.
In the wake of the assault, deemed “terrorist” by the police, extensive search operations were initiated in the area, aiming to locate any potential accomplices or co-conspirators. Meanwhile, all entrances and exits to the Old City were sealed off by authorities.
