Tokyo, Japan – Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will be raising the prices of its PlayStation Plus subscription services. The increases will take effect on September 6, 2023, for new subscribers. Existing subscribers will see the new prices when their current subscriptions expire or when they make any changes to their subscription plans.
The price increases will vary depending on the subscription plan. The basic plan, which offers online multiplayer access and two monthly free games, will increase from $60 to $80 per year. The Extra plan, which adds access to a library of over 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games, will increase from $100 to $135 per year. The Premium plan, which adds access to a library of over 300 classic PlayStation games, game trials, and streaming, will increase from $120 to $160 per year.
Plan | Price (New) | Price (Old) | Increase |
---|---|---|---|
Basic | $80 | $60 | 20% |
Extra | $135 | $100 | 35% |
Premium | $160 | $120 | 33% |
In a statement, Sony said that the price increases are necessary to “continue to invest in and improve our services.” The company said that the additional revenue will be used to fund new features and content for PlayStation Plus, such as cloud gaming and exclusive demos.
