On Wednesday, Samsung announced the launch of “Samsung Food,” an application tailored for food and recipes enhanced by artificial intelligence, this app is available in eight languages across 104 countries worldwide.
The South Korean tech giant stated in a blog post that their new app is built upon the food database of “Whisk,” a recipe app they acquired a few years ago, the new app closely resembles the “Whisk” app introduced last year.
Given Samsung’s strong presence in kitchens with its smart refrigerators and other appliances, the release of a food and recipe app seems like a logical step for the company.
The app enables users to search for recipes globally, save them, and create weekly meal plans, Samsung has prepared over 160,000 recipes for the app’s launch, with plans to increase this number in the future.
“Samsung Food” can also operate on mobile devices and smart appliances that support the “Samsung Family Hub” platform, such as refrigerators, allowing users to manage ingredients and shopping lists.
Users can save recipes at any time, and the app analyzes and standardizes them to generate shopping lists based on the ingredients, it even offers recipe recommendations based on available food items managed by the user.
The app also boasts a “recipe customization” feature that employs AI to modify recipes and create versions suitable for various types of vegetarian diets.
Samsung adds, “Users will be able to create hybrid recipes, such as Korean versions of Italian dishes, and adjust cooking times or skill levels in recipes.”
The app uses AI to suggest personalized daily meal plans based on dietary preferences and favorite types of cuisine, users can access nutritional details of ingredients at any time, and they can add items to shopping lists and purchase them directly from online retailers.
The app’s internet-connected cooking functionality allows users to preheat ovens, set timers, and transfer cooking settings to supported devices using step-by-step guided instructions.
Last week, Samsung expressed its hope to secure a million users for the app worldwide.
Even with the existence of several recipe apps like Mealtime, Paprika, Yummly, and others, Samsung has a unique advantage due to its massive sales of smart devices, making it a familiar brand for consumers.
Samsung plans to introduce new features, such as integration with Samsung Health, to synchronize variables like body mass index and calorie consumption, providing dietary management recommendations.
By 2024, the app will incorporate AI-powered visual recognition technology, allowing “Samsung Food” to identify food items through the camera and provide detailed information, including nutritional data.
The “Samsung Food” app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices.
