Microsoft Investigates Blue Screen of Death Issue on Windows 10 and 11 Due to Processor Compatibility
Microsoft has begun investigating the emergence of the “Blue Screen of Death” issue on Windows 10 and 11 systems, accompanied by a message indicating processor incompatibility.
Affected users pointed out that the problem started appearing after recent updates, despite having the system installed on computers with supported processors.
This issue leads to system crashes, displaying the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) along with an “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” message indicating processor incompatibility.
Microsoft acknowledged the problem and encouraged users to provide feedback through the Feedback Hub application.
Microsoft stated that reports of the issue came in after installing updates KB5029331 and KB5029351 released in the current August, Microsoft attempted to address the problem by removing the KB5029331 update to allow Windows to function as expected.
User feedback within Microsoft’s Feedback Hub application indicates that the issue primarily affects motherboards from MSI that run Intel processors from the 600 and 700 series, it also affects motherboards from other companies like ASUS and Gigabyte, though to a lesser extent.
Gigabyte advised users to temporarily resolve the issue by reverting the BIOS to a previous version and removing updates KB5029351 from Windows 11 and KB5029331 from Windows 10.
Microsoft has not yet identified the causes of the problem that led to Windows systems crashing after the recent updates.
