WhatsApp is currently testing a new security feature that helps link users’ accounts to their email addresses, according to the latest beta version of the application, this feature will be optional and separate from the “Two-step verification” feature, which uses email to reset the personal identification PIN in case of forgetting it.
WhatsApp has not provided more details about the new feature, nor has it specified how it differs from the current mechanism for verifying user’s identities.
However, the new security feature based on email appears to be a promising tool for protecting accounts and verifying identities in specific situations, this feature is still under development and will be available to users of the beta version of WhatsApp in the near future, with availability for other users at a later time.
WhatsApp is always striving to secure user’s accounts through various available options, such as “Two-step verification,” which allows users to enter an additional code of their choice, automatic detection of unwanted messages, monitoring of fraudulent accounts, end-to-end encryption protecting messages and calls from hackers, the ability to silence annoying calls, report suspicious messages, and other security features.
With over two billion users worldwide, WhatsApp remains a constant target for scammers and hackers, necessitating Meta – the owner of the application – to add new layers of protection.
