Google’s X (formerly known as Twitter) is Reportedly Building a Trading Hub within its App
According to the Semafor website, Google’s X, formerly known as Twitter, is in communication with major financial data providers to build a trading hub within its app.
The report stated that X has reached out to key providers in recent weeks to seek proposals regarding financial content, real-time stock data, and other features that can be added to the trading hub.
Owned by billionaire Elon Musk, X has reportedly asked interested bidders to specify the amount of money they would commit to the project, although the report did not mention any companies that have made offers.
In response, Musk stated in a post on the X platform that he is not aware of any ongoing work in this area.
Last year, Musk, who also runs SpaceX, an aerospace company, and Tesla, an electric vehicle manufacturer, among others, announced that he acquired Twitter to accelerate his ambition of creating a comprehensive app called “X.”
According to a tweet by Musk at the time, the all-encompassing app would feature encrypted direct messaging, longer tweets, and electronic payment capabilities.
The company’s executive director, Linda Yacarino, reaffirmed this vision at the end of July last year, stating, “X is the future state of unlimited interaction centered around audio, video, messages, and payments/banking services, creating a global market for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities, with the support of artificial intelligence, X will connect us all in ways we are now beginning to imagine.”
Moreover, a presentation for investors delivered by Musk and Yacarino in mid-June last year revealed that the company plans to focus on partnerships with content creators and offer electronic payment services to boost its operations.
