Elon Musk Reveals Twitter’s New Logo and Rebranding Plans: Goodbye Birds, Hello (X)

In a surprising announcement on Sunday, Elon Musk revealed his plans to change Twitter’s logo, stating, “We will soon bid farewell to the Twitter brand and gradually retire all the birds,” According to one of his numerous tweets today, the billionaire owner of the social media platform, shared an image of the new logo, an (X) symbol, which is set to be rolled out worldwide tonight.

During a voice chat on Twitter’s Spaces feature, when asked about the plan to change the logo, Musk simply replied, “Yes,” and added, “It should have happened a long time ago.” In another tweet, Musk shared a picture of himself with his arms forming the (X) symbol in front of Tesla’s logo, accompanied by the text, “I’m not sure of the exact reasons that led to this decision, but I love the (X) symbol.”

Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion late last October, has repeatedly expressed his intention to transform the platform into an all-encompassing service, similar to the Chinese WeChat app, earlier this year, he changed the company’s name to X Corp or simply (X), notably, Musk made a surprise move in early April when he changed Twitter’s logo from a bird to the Shiba Inu dog, which serves as the symbol for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, resulting in a rapid surge in the coin’s value in the market.

Twitter has faced widespread criticism from users and marketing experts since Musk’s acquisition, especially after he announced that Twitter would limit the number of tweets that accounts could read daily, the disruptions Twitter has experienced since Musk took over have led to the rapid popularity of Meta’s blogging platform “Threads,” launched earlier this July as a direct competitor to Twitter, attracting over 100 million sign-ups within just five days of its launch.
