Professor Montaser Qassimah from Abu Dhabi University Secures Two Quantum Technology Patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Abu Dhabi University’s efforts to promote innovation and research in various sectors have culminated in a significant achievement as Professor Montaser Qassimah, the electrical engineering professor, has obtained two patents in the field of quantum technology from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the university supported Dr. Montaser throughout the various stages of developing his project, enabling him to secure two patents from the U.S. federal agency, reflecting their commitment to supporting their faculty in obtaining international patents and fostering innovation and research across different industries.

The first patent is for the project “Adjustable-Frequency Quantum Microwave-to-Optical Wave Conversion”, it was ingeniously designed to map photons using low-noise microwave technology, allowing conversion to the visible light range using graphene layers, the second patent is for “Frequency-Tunable Quantum Microwave-to-Optical Conversion Interconnect”, both patents describe the structure of graphene acting as a high-performance quantum converter, capable of receiving precise voltages through microwave signals to generate photons at the quantum level, the interconnected layers of graphene act as a capacitor in the electronic circuit and a periodic medium in the optical circuit.
