Google Meet Introduces AI-Powered Custom Backgrounds for Video Calls

Google is Testing a New Feature in Google Meet, Allowing Users to Create Unique Backgrounds Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) during Video Calls, according to Google’s official website, this feature will initially be available as a trial for selected users who are part of the Google Workspace Beta Program, where Google provides new features for testing before releasing them to the public.

Users will have the option to create an AI-generated background before or during the video call by clicking on the ‘Apply Visual Effects’ icon below the image, then selecting ‘Generate a Background’ option and entering a description for the background in the designated box, they can choose from various available background styles and click on ‘Create Samples’ to immediately view multiple background options to choose from.

If the generated backgrounds are not satisfactory, users can add more descriptions or create additional samples to achieve the desired result.

It’s worth mentioning that the backgrounds generated by Google in Google Meet can be used as alternative backgrounds instead of the user’s real environment, Google has been continuously adding new features to Google Meet, including high-definition (1080p) video call quality, picture-in-picture mode, easier video effects tools, and the 360-degree background feature that adapts to the user’s movements, among others.
