Meta’s Threads Platform Surpasses Twitter’s Weekly Active Users, Attracting Over 100 Million Subscribers in 5 Days
A new report reveals that Meta’s recently launched text-based blogging platform, Threads, is on the right track, building a growing base of active users as it competes with Twitter.
The American tech giant introduced Threads earlier this month, taking advantage of Twitter’s recent struggles, particularly since billionaire Elon Musk’s acquisition in October last year.
Threads, which integrates with Instagram, became the fastest app to reach 100 million downloads in a span of its first five days of launch. Within the first 24 hours, the new Meta app reached over 95 million likes and over 190 million likes on its platform.
New data now indicates that the platform has already achieved one-fifth of Twitter’s weekly active user base worldwide.
Furthermore, Threads has outperformed Truth Social, the Twitter competitor owned by former US President Donald Trump, by a staggering 86-fold in terms of weekly active users in the United States, truth Social currently has approximately one million weekly active users as of last week.
These new insights, provided by app analytics company data.ai, follow another analysis of Threads usage, which showed a slight decline in activity.
According to the numbers released by app analytics company Sensor Tower last week, daily active users for Threads decreased by approximately 20% on the past Tuesday and Wednesday compared to the previous Saturday.
The company also reported that user engagement decreased by 50%, with the average time spent on the platform dropping from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.
However, the interest in Threads is not fading, as data.ai indicates that the app has now surpassed 150 million downloads.
Based on the company’s current estimates, Threads is about five and a half times faster in terms of downloads compared to Niantic’s Pokémon GO, which held the record for the largest app launch in July 2016.
data.ai also provided new insights into the demographics of the Threads platform, finding that the Twitter competitor attracted an audience of nearly 93 million active users worldwide during its first week of partial availability, before the official announcement of reaching 100 million subscriptions on July 10th.
The company also found that India, not the United States, leads in terms of new app downloads, accounting for 33% of global downloads. Brazil follows with 22%, then the United States with 16%, and finally Mexico and Japan with 8% and 5%, respectively.
It’s worth noting that Threads is currently unavailable in the European Union due to regulatory obstacles related to privacy concerns and data collection practices.
