Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced a series of updates today aimed at enhancing the video viewing experience on the social networking platform.
In a blog post, the American tech giant highlighted the significance of video on Facebook, noting that it has been enabling the sharing of short video clips since 2007.
Now, users can share short-form videos called “Reels,” long-form videos, and live broadcasts, allowing them, according to the company, to watch videos about things they love or discover new content while interacting with like-minded individuals.
Today, Meta stated, “We continue to heavily invest in video, and today we’re announcing the latest ways we’re empowering people to create, discover, and interact with video on Facebook.”
The company has begun rolling out updates that bring additional editing tools for Reels to the Facebook Feed, along with the ability to upload HDR (High Dynamic Range) videos, they have also made changes to the dedicated Watch tab, which was previously known as Facebook Watch, and is now simply called “Video.”
According to Meta, the new tab is the “one-stop shop for all videos on Facebook,” including Reels, long-form content, and live broadcasts.
Users will be able to vertically scroll through a personalized feed of videos, and during the scroll, they will encounter Reels sections that feature short video clips.
Meta stated that the new tab will start appearing in the shortcut bar “soon”, with the new editing tools for Reels, users can easily add audio, text, and effects to their videos.
Meta also announced that users will be able to upload HDR videos from their phones, signaling their first efforts to provide real support for HDR video across their suite of apps.
Meta is also working on enhancing integration between its applications, allowing users to view and leave comments on Reels videos on Instagram when watching them on Facebook.
