Threads, the application, gathers vast amounts of your personal data, including browsing history

Although Threads is only a few days old, it has easily caught the attention of the entire Internet, According to Mark Zuckerberg himself, over 70 million accounts have been created on the platform, along with 95 million tweets and 190 million likes from 30 million active users, based on internal data from Meta, the company behind Facebook.

As a result, the company already possesses a massive amount of data, especially after restricting Threads users from deleting their accounts without sacrificing Instagram as well.

What exacerbates the situation is that this new application collects tons of sensitive information, which can be described as a blatant violation of privacy, leading to its ban in Europe.

As for the nature of the sensitive data collected by Threads, it includes your health and financial information, precise geolocation, browsing history, contacts stored on your phone, search records, stored files, messages, and other information exclusively collected by the new Meta application under the guise of “creating a user activity profile.

” In reality, all of this data was explicitly agreed upon when you installed the application on your Android or iOS device, as it is clearly stated on the App Store and Google Play.

In fact, we are not surprised by the amount of data collected by Threads, considering that Meta, previously known as Facebook, profits from tracking its users and collecting their data to provide targeted advertising through “precise behavioral targeting tools,” This is not the first time we have learned that Meta explicitly spies on us, The only difference now is that it is done through a new application that competes with Twitter.

Europe has already banned Threads!

As mentioned earlier, Threads is not available in the European continent due to the strict laws imposed by the European Union on technology giants and their methods of collecting user data.

This has caused significant frustration for Zuckerberg, leading him to threaten to ban his products from Europe.

Now, Meta is facing another legal battle to launch its new application within Europe. The Supreme Court has previously criticized the methods of behavioral advertising, which lack legal foundations and require prior approval from the European Union.

With the collection of more sensitive information such as health data in the Threads application, Meta will need a higher level of explicit consent to process it legally in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.

Consequently, Meta must change its advertising methods drastically to be able to launch its new application in Europe, especially after the European Union imposed a $1.3 billion fine on the American advertising giant for transferring European user data to the United States.

This is the same cup TikTok has been drinking from in recent months, albeit with different governments.

If you are a Threads user, Meta possesses information about you from four different platforms: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and now their new application.

The amount of information the American company knows about you is terrifying, and even your closest acquaintances may not be aware of it, It is worth mentioning that the knowledge of your health information for the purpose of promoting pills and medications raises concerns about the extent of privacy violation that Meta may reach before realizing it has crossed the line!
