Jack Sweeney, the creator and developer of Elon Musk’s real-time plane tracking account, turned to Threads as an alternative to Twitter after his Twitter account was suspended last year.
The account named @ElonJet has been a huge success on Twitter, attracting more than half a million followers.
This account was using public aviation data to track the location of Elon Musk’s plane.
Last Thursday, Jack Sweeney launched the new account on Threads and wrote in the first tweet: “ElonJet has arrived on Threads!”, but the ID of the new account has changed to @elonmuskjet.
The new account published some posts, including a plane flight in the US state of Texas, and managed to attract more than 21,000 followers so far.
In mid-December, Twitter suspended the automated account that was tracking the movement of billionaire Musk’s plane, despite previously promising not to ban the account.
Jack Sweeney, who is 21, created his Twitter account in June 2020 because of his admiration for Elon Musk’s work at electric car company Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, where Musk is the CEO of both companies.
Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last October, and has expressed his commitment to freedom of expression on the platform.
At the beginning of last November, Musk claimed he was such a staunch advocate of free speech that he would not ban an account that tracks his private jet, even though he called it an “immediate risk to personal safety.”
It should be noted that Jack Sweeney also runs other accounts that track private jet flights for public figures such as Bill Gates, former US President Donald Trump and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
