Local media in South Korea have reported that Samsung is developing its own tool similar to the popular chatbot ChatGPT, the company is expected to announce this tool by the end of July.
According to a report by the Korean newspaper Chosun, Samsung’s tool will be based on the Large Language Model (LLM), a powerful language model that is under development and has not been named by Samsung yet.
Samsung Research, the research arm of the company, is leading the project and has dedicated significant resources and workforce to ensure its speedy completion.
To accelerate the development process, Samsung has even allocated certain sections to graphics processing units (GPUs) as training large language models requires substantial GPU power.
Samsung aims to develop its own artificial intelligence tool without putting additional burden on its existing processors.
Earlier rumors suggested that Samsung would collaborate with Naver, one of South Korea’s largest teach companies, to develop a competing tool to ChatGPT, the plan was to launch this tool by the end of the year.
However, according to Chosun’s report, Samsung will develop its own artificial intelligence tool within just two months.
The initial version of the tool may not be available to the public and could be restricted for internal within Samsung to assist employees in tasks such as summarization, translation, software development, and other internal operations.
Samsung believes that artificial intelligence can significantly shorten software development and semiconductor cycles,as per the Korean newspaper.
Samsung had previously allowed its employees to utilize artificial intelligence programs to accomplish tasks.
However, data leaks occurred, leading Samsung to ban the use of such programs and instead focus on developing its own tools.
Samsung is expected to hold a conference at the end of July to announce its new foldable phones and other products, possibly unveiling new products or services that leverage artificial intelligence.
