The highly anticipated Volvo EX30 has finally been unveiled as the Swedish automaker’s smallest model. Despite its compact size, the EX30 is an impressive vehicle, potentially shaking up the automotive world as one of the most intriguing new electric cars.
Volvo demonstrates that a good electric vehicle doesn’t have to be expensive with the EX30. With a starting price of just under €40,000, the EX30 is among the more affordable electric vehicles in its segment. The combination of competitive pricing, Volvo’s reputation for high quality and safety, positions the EX30 for great success. It could become one of the best-selling electric vehicles of 2024.
Power Meets Efficiency
The EX30 is not only the smallest Volvo, but also the fastest one ever produced. Built on Geely’s SEA platform, the EX30 is equipped with a powerful and efficient electric motor. The vehicle is available in three drivetrain options: Single Motor, Single Motor Extended Range, and Twin Motor Performance. The Single Motor variants provide 272 hp (200 kW), while the Twin Motor Performance variant produces an impressive 428 hp (315 kW). This makes the EX30 in the Twin Motor Performance trim the fastest Volvo ever, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
Excellent Range
Volvo will offer the EX30 with LFP and NMC batteries. The most affordable Single Motor variant features an LFP battery, providing a WLTP range of 344 kilometers. The Single Motor Extended Range variant comes with an NMC battery and offers a range of up to 480 kilometers. Opting for the all-wheel-drive version of this variant results in a slightly reduced range of 460 kilometers.
Fast and Convenient Charging
The EX30 can be charged at home, on your street, or at a public charging station with 11 kW. Moreover, you won’t have to worry about charging on the go. Thanks to compatibility with DC fast chargers, the EX30’s battery can be recharged quickly. Depending on the chosen variant, the charging speed can reach up to 153 kW for the Twin Motor Performance, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just over 25 minutes.
Volvo’s Promise of Safety
Safety is always a priority for Volvo, and the EX30 is no exception. This compact SUV is equipped with a range of advanced safety and assistance systems to protect you and your passengers. Features include the advanced Pilot Assist system, offering semi-autonomous driving support, and the enhanced City Safety system, which can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals. Additionally, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist warns of vehicles in blind spots and can provide steering assistance to prevent a potential collision. The Cross Traffic Alert system assists when reversing out of a parking spot, further contributing to the EX30’s safety.
A Distinctly Volvo Design
The Volvo EX30 combines functionality and aesthetics with its unique design, as expected from the Swedish manufacturer. This compact SUV is perfect for city driving and easy parking, while its rugged and robust appearance is reminiscent of larger Volvo SUVs like the XC40 and C40.
The front of the vehicle features Volvo’s closed grille, an element typical of most electric vehicles. Sharp, angular headlights emphasize the modern and dynamic character of the EX30. The rear of the EX30 showcases Volvo’s recognizable vertical taillights, accentuating the vehicle’s width. Volvo has intentionally kept the rear free of unnecessary decorations, giving the car a sleek and minimalist appearance.
The EX30’s interior is also thoughtfully designed, proving that functionality and aesthetics can coexist seamlessly. The dashboard is clean, minimalist, and well-organized, centered around a large infotainment screen. High-quality materials give the interior a premium feel.
