Google has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest €25 million (approximately $26.9 million) to train people across Europe in artificial intelligence (AI) skills, this initiative is part of the tech giant’s broader effort to equip workers and economies for the disruptions caused by rapidly developing technologies. Named “AI Opportunities for Europe,” the initiative is particularly aimed at supporting vulnerable and underserved communities.
Supporting Workforce Development:
With a significant focus on ensuring workers are not left behind in the AI revolution, Google has allocated €10 million (about $10.8 million) of the total investment to specifically address the needs of those most at risk of being impacted by AI advancements, in partnership with the Public Impact Center, funded by the Boston Consulting Group, Google aims to identify social enterprises and non-profit organizations that can effectively reach and benefit from AI training.
Expanding the AI Ecosystem:
The initiative also includes support for the emerging Growth Academy across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, this program champions startups utilizing AI to tackle significant societal challenges, furthermore, Google has expanded its free online AI training courses to include 18 languages, making AI education more accessible globally.
