In a significant update to its Gmail application, Google has introduced an easier way to unsubscribe from email lists. This development aims to address the common inconvenience users face after making online purchases or account registrations, where they often find themselves automatically subscribed to various newsletters.
The latest Gmail interface now prominently displays an “Unsubscribe” button next to the sender’s name in emails, making it more accessible than ever. Previously, this feature was somewhat hidden within menus. This change is currently rolling out to Android devices, as first reported by technology news site Gadgetbridge and later confirmed by Android Police.

However, the availability of this new feature varies across devices. Android Police’s team successfully tested the updated unsubscribe button on a Pixel 8 Pro running Gmail version 2023.11.26. In contrast, the feature was not yet available on an Honor phone or a Pixel Fold with the same Gmail version.
Google has clarified that this update is server-side, explaining why not all devices with the same version of the Gmail app have the new unsubscribe button yet. Users may need to wait a bit longer to see this feature on their Android devices.
If the update is available, users can easily start the unsubscribe process with just a couple of clicks directly from the email header. This process may vary in duration, depending on the sender’s settings. For those without the update, the older method of unsubscribing through a three-dot menu at the top right corner of the screen remains functional.
