WhatsApp Introduces Status Archive Feature for Content Saving and Sharing.
WABetalnfo, a leading website that tracks experimental features on WhatsApp, reported on Monday that the popular messaging app is testing a new feature aimed at simplifying the process of saving and sharing status updates.
According to the website, WhatsApp, a subsidiary of Meta, is developing a feature called “Status Archive” as a new tool for businesses to publish previous status updates to their clients.
The feature is currently being rolled out to subscribers of the WhatsApp Business beta program for Android users and will become available to more users in the coming weeks.
WABetalnfo shared screenshots revealing that users will be notified through a banner at the top of the status screen if the feature is activated for them.
Once enabled, users can archive their statuses on their devices after 24 hours.
Additionally, users can manage their archive preferences and view the archive directly from the status menu.
WABetalnfo emphasized that the archive is always private, and only the user can see the archived statuses.
This feature is expected to be particularly beneficial for businesses, as it allows them to statues from their archive and share them with their clients multiple times, ultimately enhancing their business operations.
Archived statuses will be stored on the device for up to 30 days, and users will still have the ability to create Facebook and Instagram ads or share the same statues until they expire in the archive.
It’s worth nothing that this new feature appears to be exclusive to businesses, as WABetalnfo stated, “We currently don’t have any information or reports about this feature being available to individuals using WhatsApp Messenger”.
WhatsApp is continuously testing new features, many of which eventually become available to the general user base.
Other features currently being tested include a username feature aimed at enhancing privacy and self-identification without the need for phone numbers.
WhatsApp is also testing a feature that allows users to share their phone screen activities during video calls, providing an option within the screen interface.
