Apple Aims to Revolutionize iPhone Design with Full-Front Display and Under-Screen Cameras
Apple, in collaboration with its partners, is striving to revolutionize iPhone design by developing screens that cover the entire front surface and cameras hidden under the screen, this pioneering approach surpasses traditional designs, as the company is integrating the front camera in a way that makes it invisible on the screen.
According to South Korea’s The Elec platform, LG Innotek has started developing this new technology, creating an under-screen camera poses a significant technical challenge, as the screen could reduce the amount of light reaching the camera lens, potentially affecting image quality.
Unlike traditional front-facing cameras that receive light directly, cameras hidden under the screen face the issue of some light loss as it passes through the display panel, to overcome this challenge, LG Innotek is developing a specialized lens system capable of reducing optical aberrations and enhancing light transmissibility, a patent for this technology has recently been registered.
Meanwhile, LG Display, a sister company of LG Innotek, is working on developing screens with a light transmittance of up to 20% in 2023, expected to increase to 40% by 2024, this progress is nearing Apple’s standards.
According to reports, Apple plans to integrate Face ID technology under the screen by 2025 in the iPhone 17 Pro, this step will pave the way for iPhones with full-front screens without any notches or camera cutouts, marking a significant advancement in smartphone design.
