The revelation of this change, which came shortly after the incorporation of the chatbot into Windows 11, follows reports of Bing’s failure to capture market share from Google despite six months since Bing Chat’s inception, prompting discussion from Microsoft.
Copilot is now showcased as a free version of the smart bot and as part of the Microsoft 365 suite, with a dedicated site for this service, Microsoft appears to be delineating its AI capabilities from its search engine.
Consequently, Copilot is providing an autonomous experience for users, liberating them from accessing it through Bing.
Business users gain privileged access to Copilot via Entra ID, while access to the free service requires a Microsoft account, the company maintains that Bing continues to play a vital role in supporting the Copilot experiences, retaining its stature in the search industry.
Additionally, Microsoft offers “Commercial Data Protection” for users logging in through company accounts, ensuring that data is not retained for AI development or accessed by the company.
