Google has revamped the homepage of its cloud storage service, “Drive,” on both Android and iOS systems, introducing a new user interface for quicker access to files.
On the Drive app’s homepage, Google has discontinued the use of the card-style preview for files in the “Suggested” tab.
Previously, file previews were consistently small and indistinguishable, instead, Google will replace the preview option with a list format, displaying more files “recently opened, shared, or edited,” along with indications of recent activities such as comments and responses, beneath the file name.
Google has also replaced the “Activity” tab with a “Notifications” tab, aligning with recent changes made on the web version.
The “Activity” tab employs a card-style display to showcase items that require user attention, like pending access requests, recent comments, and pending approvals.
Google has introduced a new circular icon resembling a camera above the “New” button, allowing users to access the camera and scan documents, if users prefer not to default to the app’s homepage, the app will open to the last-used tab.
Google plans to roll out the redesigned Drive app interface in the coming weeks for all Workspace subscribers and free personal account holders.
The Drive app has recently gained some new features, including the ability to preview two pages simultaneously when opening PDF files, along with drawing and highlighting capabilities, additionally, new search options are being tested for file discovery.
