Epic Games, the maker of the popular video game Fortnite, has launched its legal battle with Google in the United States, due to the huge commission that players incur when using the game.
The company accused Google of charging a 30% commission on in-app game purchases in the Google Play Store, thus abandoning Google’s famous slogan “Don’t be evil ” However, Google claimed that there are many other ways to download apps on devices running the Android operating system, rejecting the allegation that it is operating through monopoly, according to Reuters article published on 27th September 2023.
It is worth noting that this company had previously filed a lawsuit against Apple accusing it of also abusing its power against app developers, The Epic Games case adds to a series of other cases recently filed against Google in the antitrust file, with the US Department of Justice accusing the company of illegally monopolizing the search field.
