Google has announced that its SGE (Search Generative Experiment) now enables you to create images directly from text prompts, this comes after Microsoft introduced the ability to generate images within Bing Chat using OpenAI’s DALL-E model back in March, it’s no surprise that Google is following suit.
Google now allows users to draft within the SGE search experience, customizing the outputs to be long or short and adjusting the writing style to be serious or informal.
These new features follow a series of rapid updates to the SGE search experience, reflecting the accelerated pace of artificial intelligence technology development.
Over the past few months, the SGE search experience has gained new capabilities, such as generating AI-supported summaries, creating definitions for unfamiliar terms, and generating code, as well as travel and product search features.
With the new AI-powered image creation feature, you can input a prompt that specifies the type of image you want, such as a drawing, a photograph, or an art piece. SGE generates four downloadable results in PNG format, or you can edit the prompt to create a new set of images.
Google’s Imagen model powers the text-to-image conversion, and this feature is also available when using Google’s image search.
You can create a new image by using the prompts within the results if you don’t find the image you need while scrolling through image search results.
Google restricts the new image creation feature to users aged 18 or older, as AI-generated images have led to some inappropriate content.
The company has added some stringent filtering policies to the product, these filters aim to prevent the creation of harmful or misleading images that violate the policies of generative artificial intelligence usage.
Google also prohibits the creation of images containing realistic faces and prompts that mention prominent individuals, a measure aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation.
