Innovative Mobile Vertical Farm Launched at the University of Abu Dhabi

The University of Abu Dhabi has opened its first mobile and inflatable farm on its campus in collaboration with the South Korean agricultural technology company, “Meedbar,” and the holding company of Rashid bin Khalafan Al Mazrouei, this initiative is part of the university’s innovation strategy, “University of Abu Dhabi Innovates,” aimed at accelerating the development of innovative solutions that support sustainable agricultural development.

This innovative farm is the result of a cooperation agreement between the University of Abu Dhabi, Meedbar, and the holding company of Rashid bin Khalafan Al Mazrouei, with the goal of creating a comprehensive framework for providing the best supply solutions and conducting research and scientific development for various vital business sectors in the UAE market, including agriculture, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, healthcare, and water desalination.

Through this farm, the University of Abu Dhabi aims to promote a culture of innovation and creative thinkingm, it provides students and faculty with sustainable and comprehensive solutions to address various challenges, the farm will enable students and faculty to contribute to social development initiatives by offering practical learning opportunities and enhancing collaboration across various disciplines, it also fosters innovation and helps create sustainable agricultural solutions in line with the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to achieving a more sustainable and prosperous future.

The project employs several innovative technologies, including IoT and artificial intelligence, in addition to over 15 advanced technological solutions to create a vibrant environment that promotes agricultural sustainability and contributes to achieving food security.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the University of Abu Dhabi, including Professor Ghassan Aouad, the university’s director, and Saad bin Rashid bin Khalafan Al Mazrouei, the vice chairman of the board of directors of the holding company of Rashid bin Khalafan Al Mazrouei, it was also attended by representatives from the holding company of Rashid bin Khalafan Al Mazrouei, Gracia Group, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the American Chamber of Commerce in Abu Dhabi, Modus Capital, and Elite Projects.

Attendees took a tour to explore the features of the vertical farm and had the opportunity to witness the first harvest of fresh agricultural produce, this type of innovative agricultural solution is essential for enhancing food security and sustainable agricultural practices globally, advanced smart farming solutions significantly increase crop yields, reduce labor costs, and minimize water usage and fertilizer consumption.
