Apple Integrates Qualcomm’s X70 Modem Chip into Entire iPhone 15 Lineup

Apple has equipped its latest iPhone lineup with Qualcomm’s X70 modem chip, considering it suitable to integrate the modem chip into various models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Previous information suggested that Apple used the logic board of the iPhone 14 Pro in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. However, new information confirms that Apple redesigned the logic board for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, utilizing the X70 modem chip in all models.

The X70 modem chip boasts various improvements compared to the previous X65 chip. According to speed tests, the X70 modem chip provides faster 5G network performance and better long-distance signal reception.

In the iPhone 15 lineup, the new modem chip offers up to a 24% increase in speed compared to last year’s models and is more energy-efficient than the X65 modem chip, this allows for potential battery life enhancements when integrated with the A17 Pro chip.

Apple is currently developing its in-house modem chip for the iPhone to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm. It appears that Apple is transitioning from relying on external sources to developing technology that only it can use.

This shift began with the introduction of Apple Silicon, gradually moving away from Intel-based chips in the Mac lineup and adopting custom-designed processors for those devices.

Currently, nearly the entire Mac lineup has transitioned from Intel-based chips to the M-series processors.

In addition to this, Apple is also developing its microLED displays. Starting in 2025, Apple plans to use microLED displays with the launch of the new Apple Watch Ultra, gradually transitioning the display technology to iPhones, iPads, and even Mac devices.
