At the 2023 webOS Partners Summit, LG unveiled its new vision, aiming to transform itself into a formidable player in the media and entertainment platform arena, rivaling companies like Samsung. LG plans to invest $753 million over the next five years in webOS, the operating system, to achieve this goal.

According to LG, this transformation will enhance customers’ lives by offering valuable services and a unique range of content on LG products, including LG OLED and LG QNED TVs.

As part of the new strategy, LG plans to expand the webOS platform to include other product categories. The brand expects to have a total of 300 million webOS-operated devices within the next three years, marking a significant increase from the current 200 million devices.

LG believes that the $753 million investment will provide more content and services that cater to diverse consumer lifestyles and preferences.

The company aims to enhance the user experience by improving the user interface and user experience and by strengthening partnerships with content production companies globally.

Additionally, LG is focusing on innovation in artificial intelligence-driven search and recommendations, as part of this effort, the company plans to integrate voice user interface features into partner applications.

This feature will allow users to easily control and navigate external content applications through webOS, enabling quick and effortless content discovery.

To achieve its goals, LG is collaborating with academic institutions in South Korea to nurture the next generation of software talents and recruit software professionals worldwide.

LG’s goal is to provide personalized experiences that cater to each customer’s preferences and lifestyle while creating products that are accessible to everyone.

Based on the details provided by LG, it appears that the company is concentrating on improving and expanding the webOS platform primarily with a focus on OLED and QNED TVs, as it transitions into a media and entertainment company.

This strategic shift may benefit Samsung as it could allow them to gain more market share in the consumer electronics industry.
