Apple has increased the speed of 5G networks in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, according to data from the specialized platform SpeedSmart, download speeds over 5G networks in the iPhone 15 Pro have jumped by 24% compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, which was released last year.
The speed increase varies depending on the US carrier providing the 5G network, for instance, download speeds on T-Mobile’s 5G network reached 300 megabits per second on the iPhone 15 Pro, compared to an average of 245 megabits per second on the previous iPhone 14 Pro.
However, upload speeds haven’t seen the same improvement as download speeds, this advancement is attributed to the Snapdragon X70 modem, which SpeedSmart believes is present in the iPhone 15 Pro, although Apple has not explicitly confirmed this.
Qualcomm, the maker of the modem, promotes it as offering “unparalleled data speeds, coverage, and reach.” The modem also features an AI processor to enhance its connectivity across different 5G frequencies.
It’s worth noting that the Snapdragon X70 modem is also found in Samsung Galaxy S23 phones.
Apple had previously signed an agreement with Qualcomm to source modem chips until 2026, amid reports that Apple is still struggling to develop its own modem technology.
