In a shocking revelation, after three years of suffering, the AI program “ChatGPT” helped a mother determine the cause of her son’s debilitating pain, after doctors failed to diagnose it.
Courtney, who chose not to disclose her full name, stated that her son Alex began experiencing severe symptoms when he was four years old during the COVID-19 lockdown, she explained that the family caregiver began suggesting giving him Motrin every day, or else he would suffer massive meltdowns.
While pain relievers did help alleviate her child’s pain, worrisome symptoms began to surface after a period, as reported by The Independent.
Alex began chewing on objects, which led the family to wonder if he was suffering from dental cavities, after a dental examination showed no issues, Alex was referred to an orthodontist, who found that his palate was too small, this could cause sleep problems, and the family believed it might be part of the reason he wasn’t improving.
The orthodontist treated Alex by placing an expander in his palate, temporarily putting the family at ease, however, Alex continued to suffer, and Courtney soon noticed that her son had stopped growing, wasn’t walking properly for his age, and was experiencing severe headaches and fatigue.
The family consulted an array of experts, including pediatricians, neurologists, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and more, all in an effort to identify Alex’s illness.
Finally, Courtney said they consulted 17 doctors, but they were left frustrated and without answers, none of the recommended treatments resolved the problem.
After three years of doctor’s appointments, Courtney turned to the “ChatGPT” application for answers.
Finally, a Correct Diagnosis, courtney explained, “I went through line by line on everything that was in the MRI notes, and I put it into ChatGPT.”
The experiment led to the discovery of Tethered Cord Syndrome, a complication of Spina Bifida Occulta, they scheduled an appointment with a new neurosurgeon who confirmed that Alex had a tethered spinal cord due to occult spina bifida, a congenital defect that causes problems with spinal cord growth.
