Sony Releases Major PlayStation 5 Update with Dolby Atmos Support and Enhanced Accessibility Features
Sony has rolled out a significant update for the PlayStation 5 platform worldwide, introducing several new features that have been in testing since late July in some countries.
The update adds support for HDMI devices compatible with Dolby Atmos, such as soundbars, TVs, or home theater systems, this allows the platform to pass Tempest 3D AudioTech’s three-dimensional audio to Dolby Atmos-compatible HDMI devices, enhancing immersion in PlayStation 5 games.
Additionally, the update brings new accessibility features, including the ability to assign a second controller to a single account as an assisting controller.
This enables using two controllers to operate the PlayStation 5 as if you were using a single controller, offering a new way to enjoy cooperative gaming with others or assist a friend or child in navigating a challenging section of the game.
You can use the assisting controller when the primary controller is either a DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge, or an external controller supported by PlayStation 5.
Sony also allows players to trigger haptic feedback effects while navigating the PlayStation 5 system using a DualSense controller, DualSense Edge, or PS VR2 Sense controller.
System sound effects for specific events are also tactically reflected, such as moving focus, reaching the maximum of a scrollable area, selecting a box, or receiving a notification or starting a game.
This optional feature enhances immersion in the game and is useful for players with visual or hearing impairments who seek additional feedback on their inputs.
In addition to these features, Sony has announced that the PS Remote Play application is now supported on devices running Android TV OS version 12, which currently includes the 4K model of Chromecast with Google TV and the XR A95L model of Sony Bravia TVs.
The PS Remote Play application allows players to stream games from the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 to another device, including smartphones, tablets, and computers, either over the internet or through the home network.
Additional voice commands in English for navigating help content, checking out new PlayStation 5 features, and viewing the current monthly PlayStation Plus game list are now available.
The company will gradually release some new features later this month for the PS Remote Play application on Android and iOS worldwide, enabling emoji responses to messages, making it easier and faster to communicate with friends.
You can now invite a player to a closed group without automatically adding the player to the group or create a new group.
Additionally, players can send open or closed group invites to groups rather than individual players only.
