The famous British newspaper, The Independent, discussed the behind-the-scenes details of the conversation between Mourinho and Lukaku. Mourinho reportedly told the Belgian star, “We have a good team, but we need a champion.”
The source confirmed that this conversation was one of the main reasons for Lukaku’s move to AS Roma, as the Belgian player was considering the possibility of joining the historic Italian football champion, Juventus.
The newspaper added that Mourinho had requested Roma officials to travel directly to London to secure the loan signing of Lukaku from Chelsea.
