Manchester City announced the official extension of the contract of its young player Rico Lewis, for the next 5 years until 2028, as part of the European champions’ plan to retain promising talent led by coach Pep Guardiola.

The 18-year-old Rico Lewis has featured for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, securing a place in the starting line-up for the Sky Blue.

Manchester City said in an official statement published on its website a short while ago, that it reached an agreement with young English full-back Rico Lewis to extend his contract until 2028.
Txiki Begerstein, manager of Man City, explained in remarks via the official website of the Citizens: “Rico is a really smart footballer, and he is already a mature and reliable member of the team.”
“He absorbs every piece of information Pep Guardiola has to offer, we are very proud to watch his journey through the academy, and to see him play with such confidence in the first team.”

The 18-year-old was promoted to Man City’s first team last season, making 23 appearances, and winning for the Citizens, the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup.
Rico Lewis’ first comment on contract extension with Manchester City
Lewis commented on the extension of his contract with Manchester City through statements to the official Manchester City website, saying: It was a great year for me, and now signing this contract is a dream come true.
“As a City fan, I can remember watching us win trophies when I was young and that’s the only place I wanted to be.
The young Manchester City star concluded: “Knowing that I will stay here until 2028 is great and I can’t wait to keep working and keep improving.
