Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp explained the substitution of Mohamed Salah around the 77th minute in the match against Chelsea.
Liverpool and Chelsea shared points in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, in the first round of the English Premier League.
Salah appeared angry when he was substituted as he went to the Liverpool bench without shaking hands with Klopp.
Klopp said in statements to “beIN Sports” channel: “Mohamed Salah is a very important player for Liverpool I substituted him because I needed to bring on players with better physical condition.”
He added: “Salah has many record-breaking numbers that he cares about, but for me tactically I do not think about such things.”
Klopp then talked about the Chelsea match: “We have to continue to radiate in all matches we started well and we were prepared on the field then we gave Chelsea a chance to wake up.”
The German added: “We have to maintain the good start in all the upcoming matches.”
He continued: “Sometimes we lacked courage and we were not present well in depth we should not leave spaces.”
He then concluded: “The first half ended in a positive draw then honestly we put Chelsea under pressure in the second half.”
He continued: “I think the draw is a fair result between Chelsea and Liverpool.”
Before concluding, the Liverpool manager said: Did we sign new players in the transfer market? I haven’t checked my phone to know what’s happening around the world.
