On Monday, 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from the league after an illustrious 19-year career. Throughout his time in the NBA, Anthony played for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers, establishing himself as one of the best scorers of his era.
Before joining the NBA, Anthony attended Syracuse University, where he led the school to its only college basketball national title. He was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2003 NCAA tournament.
In the NBA, Anthony’s accolades include winning the 2013 scoring title and being named to the league’s 75th anniversary team. Although he never secured an NBA championship, Anthony is often regarded as the greatest player in Team USA men’s Olympic basketball history. He has four Olympic medals to his name, three of which are gold, and holds the United States’ single-game Olympic scoring record with 37 points. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Anthony and Kevin Durant are the only players with multiple 30-point games for the national team.
Following the announcement of his retirement, the NBA and some of Anthony’s former teams paid tribute to his exceptional career.

In a notable moment from 2018, Oklahoma City traded Anthony and a first-round pick for Dennis Schroder. Before Anthony could don a jersey in Atlanta, the Hawks reached a buyout agreement on his contract, making him a free agent. Anthony subsequently signed with the Rockets, but Atlanta still created a team jersey for him, which he added to his personal collection.
