The 2023-24 Premier League season promises to be a thrilling ride, with several records poised to be broken in the world of English football.
Burnley and Manchester City will kick off the 2023-24 Premier League season, a campaign in which all 20 clubs enter with renewed hope and a common goal – to clinch the title.
Manchester City, under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola, are not only the top favorites to reclaim the title but also the team to beat for the other 19 clubs. This isn’t solely due to the title race; several records set by the Cityzens in recent years are anticipated to be challenged this season.

As the saying goes, records are made to be broken, and both the Sky Blues and the other 18 teams are eager to shatter some of these positive benchmarks in the league’s history. For the 19 teams competing against City, there’s also the goal of setting their own records and gradually surpassing some of Guardiola’s collective and individual achievements.
Records to Break in the 2023-24 Premier League Season
Most Points in a Season
This record is held by Manchester City, who, in addition to scoring 106 goals in the 2017-18 season, managed to accumulate 100 points, making them the only club in the Premier to reach this mark. Notably, Liverpool fell just one point short of equaling this record in the 2019-20 season, with 99 points.
Most Wins in a Season
Another feather in City’s cap is the record for most victories in a season, achieved in the same 2017-18 season as the points and goals record. In that campaign, the Citizens secured 32 wins, 4 draws, and only 2 losses.
Most Goals in a Season
This record belongs to the current champions, who, in the 2017-2018 season, besides winning the title, scored 106 goals, the highest for a team in the Premier League era from 1992 to the present.
Most Goals Scored by a Player in a Season
Perhaps the most recent record in the Premier League books was set just a few months ago at the end of the 2022-23 season. Erling Haaland made history by scoring 36 goals in his debut season with the Cityzens.
Biggest Win Margin in a Season
The record stands at a 9-0 victory, which has been duplicated four times. Most recently, Liverpool triumphed over Bournemouth with the same scoreline in the 2022-23 season. Previously, Manchester United defeated Southampton in the 2020-21 season, and the Saints themselves did it against Leicester City in the 2019-20 season. The oldest occurrence dates back to the 1994-95 season when United demolished Ipswich Town.

Most Premier League Appearances
James Milner could set a Premier League record. Provided the midfielder plays all 38 matches of the season, he would become the footballer with the most appearances in the Premier League era, as he currently has 619 games under his belt. The record is held by Gary Speed with 652 games, followed by Ryan Giggs with 632.
