German club Bayern Munich issued an official statement to respond to accusations of racism launched by Bakary Cisse, public relations adviser to former team star Sadio Mane, and recently transferred to the ranks of Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.
Bakary Cisse, Mane’s agent, had confirmed that his client’s departure from Bayern Munich was not for football-related reasons, saying: “Mane’s sale was not for football-related reasons, his wage bothered the Germans.”
“They didn’t understand how an African player could join the club and become the highest paid man above everyone, they wanted to get rid of him.”
He also commented on Sadio Mane’s crisis with team-mate Leroy Sane, stressing that the latter had directed racist insults at him.
Bayern Munich: Our accusation of racism against Mane is not true
Bayern Munich issued an official statement in response to the comments and said: “We have terminated our contract with Sadio Mane by mutual agreement. “Accusations of racism, such as those now being raised again by Sadio’s representatives, are baseless.”
The statement added: “Our coach Thomas Tuchel was not told that Sadio is no longer playing, Bayern expressed its appreciation to Sadio Mane as a person and a player, and unfortunately our common goals, which we set for ourselves with his commitment, have not been achieved, this happens in football, we wish Sadio all the best and success in his new club.”
Mane joined Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr this summer for £34m, just a year after moving to Bayern Munich for £35m.
