Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies is currently delaying the renewal of his contract with the club as he awaits a potential offer from Real Madrid.
Despite being offered fresh terms, Davies has yet to put pen to paper with the Bundesliga champions. The talented Canadian international is reportedly holding out for an opportunity to join Real Madrid, who may be considering the sale of Ferland Mendy during the current transfer window. Bayern, in response, has already secured the signing of Raphael Guerreiro this summer, which could potentially open the door for Madrid to make a bid for Davies.
Looking at the bigger picture, Real Madrid is believed to view the acquisition of Davies as an attainable target. However, their current strategy is to wait until next summer, when the defender will have just one year left on his contract. By then, his price tag is expected to be more affordable. Alternatively, Madrid might even contemplate waiting until the expiration of Davies’ contract in 2025, aiming to secure his services as a free agent.
Furthermore, Davies has previously expressed frustration over being consistently deployed as a left-back at Bayern, despite initially being signed with the intention of playing him as a winger. Since joining the German club from Vancouver Whitecaps, he has amassed an impressive total of 153 appearances.
As for what lies ahead, Davies is likely to feature prominently in Bayern’s pre-season plans. The team is scheduled to travel to Japan for matches against Manchester City, Kawasaki Frontale, and Liverpool.
