Sergio Ramos to Leave PSG at Season’s End, Heading to Saudi Arabian Club

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has announced that their experienced defender, Sergio Ramos, will be leaving the team at the end of the season. However, a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club is already on the table for Ramos.

Despite recent discussions about a possible contract extension, Sergio Ramos will ultimately leave PSG when his contract expires at the end of the season. In an official statement, the club said, “Paris Saint-Germain warmly salutes Sergio Ramos, who is preparing to leave the capital after two seasons spent defending the Club’s colors. (…) PSG sincerely wishes him the best for the rest of his career.”

After wearing the Parisian jersey 54 times across two seasons, Sergio Ramos will depart the club with two French championships added to his already impressive résumé, as well as a Champions Trophy won last summer. The possibility of the Spanish defender remaining in Paris had gained traction towards the end of the season, but Ramos’ camp and PSG could not reach an agreement to extend the partnership, likely due to an attractive foreign offer made to the former Real Madrid player.

A €30 Million Net Salary per Season

According to Defensa Central, Sergio Ramos’ representatives have been in negotiations with a Saudi Arabian club for months, making it the trendy destination this summer. Al-Hilal, also pursuing Lionel Messi, is prepared to sign Ramos for a net salary of €30 million per season. The contract would be for a minimum of two seasons and include various tax benefits. Cristiano Ronaldo’s club, Al Nassr, is also considering Ramos, but Al-Hilal appears to be in the lead.

This summer, Saudi Arabia is emerging as the popular destination for players nearing the end of their careers. Like Karim Benzema and Lionel Messi, several other players have been approached, including Eden Hazard and Sadio Mané. Sergio Ramos could be the next to join this trend, eager to continue playing. “I will take on new challenges, I will wear other colors, but first, for the last time: Allez Paris,” he said during the announcement of his departure from PSG.
