Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Fulham after sustaining an injury in Wednesday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle United.
United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed the news in a post-match press conference, saying that Casemiro had picked up the injury “just before half-time” and would definitely be out for the Fulham match.
Ten Hag did not specify the nature of the injury, but said that the club would have to wait 24 hours for a more complete assessment.
The Brazilian international is a key player for United in defensive midfield, and his absence will be a blow to the team as they look to bounce back from their derby defeat to Manchester City last weekend.
Casemiro also faces a race against time to be fit for Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina in mid-November.
Ten Hag said he could not say whether Casemiro would be recovered by then, but said that the club would be “in touch” with the Brazilian Football Association.
Manchester United are currently eighth in the Premier League table, while Brazil are third in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
