Taiwo Awoniyi was with Liverpool from 2015 until 2021, spending most of that time on loan at various clubs such as Frankfurt, Union Berlin, Mainz, and Mouscron, before joining Nottingham Forest in 2021 in a deal worth around £6.5 million.
The Nigerian striker has been performing well for Nottingham Forest this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the six matches he has played.
Awoniyi stated to Liverpool’s website: “Training with some giants like Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mane made me realize that I should leave the team, although I enjoyed training sessions a lot.”
He continued: “In life, you have to make some tough decisions. I fully realized that I should be participating in matches, and this was extremely difficult with the presence of a trio like Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino.”
It is worth mentioning that Liverpool’s victory in this match raised their points to 23, placing them fourth in the table, just three points behind the leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
